Indian Railways present demand would be fulfilled by the solar projects being deployed, making it the first transport organisation to be energy self-sufficient.
ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਰੇਲਵੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਵਾਜਾਈ ਦਾ ਹਰਾ ਸਾਧਨ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ‘ਆਤਮਨਿਰਭਰ’ ਵੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇਗਾ।

ਭਾਰਤੀ ਰੇਲਵੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਭਿੰਨ ਸਟੇਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਭਵਨਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਲਗਭਗ 100 ਮੈਗਾਵਾਟ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੌਰ ਪੈਨਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਚਾਲੂ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ।
About 100 MWp rooftop solar systems have already been commissioned on various stations and buildings of Indian Railways.

This is the first of its kind project in the world commissioned by Indian Railways in collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).
ਇਹ ਸਾਲਾਨਾ ਲਗਭਗ 25 ਲੱਖ ਯੂਨਿਟ ਊਰਜਾ ਦਾ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਰੇਲਵੇ ਲਈ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਲਗਭਗ 1.37 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਬੱਚਤ ਕਰੇਗਾ।
It can produce approximately 25 lakh units of energy annually and will save around INR 1.37 Crore for Railway every year.

In addition to this, two pilot projects for the scheme of land based solar plants for meeting electric traction energy requirements of Indian Railways are under implementation.
