धैर्य कठिन परिस्थितियों में व्यक्ति की सहनशीलता की अवस्था है जो उसके व्यवहार को क्रोध या खीझ जैसी नकारात्मक अभिवृत्तियों से बचाती है। दीर्घकालीन समस्याओं से घिरे होने के कारण व्यक्ति जो दबाव या तनाव अनुभव करने लगता है उसको सहन कर सकने की क्षमता भी धैर्य का एक उदाहरण है। वस्तुतः धैर्य नकारात्मकता से पूर्व सहनशीलता का एक स्तर है। यह व्यक्ति की चारित्रिक दृढ़ता का परिचायक भी है।

Patience is the ability to endure difficult circumstances.
