மோதல் இரு பொருட்கள் மோதும் போது அவைகளுக்கிடையே ஆற்றல் பரிமாற்றம் நிகழ்கிறது. இந்நிலையில் அதிக ஆற்றல் கொண்ட பொருள் ,மோதல் காரணமாக தன் ஆற்றலின் ஒரு பகுதியினை மற்ற பொருளுடன் பகிர்ந்து கொள்கிறது. எனவே மோதும் இரு பொருட்களும் தமது முந்தைய திசைவேகம் மாறப்பெற்று ,புதிய திசைவேகத்தினைப் பெறுகின்றன.இயற்பியல் விதிகளின் துணையுடன் மோதலுக்குப்பின் அவைகளின் ஆற்றல், திசைவேகம்,திசை முதலியவற்றைக் கணக்கிட முடியும்.
