आड़ू या सतालू का उत्पत्ति स्थान चीन है। कुछ वैज्ञानिकों का मत है कि यह ईरान में उत्पन्न हुआ। यह पर्णपाती वृक्ष है। भारत के पर्वतीय तथा उपपर्वतीय भागों में इसकी सफल खेती होती है। ताजे फल खाए जाते हैं तथा फल से फलपाक (जैम), जेली और चटनी बनती है। फल में चीनी की मात्रा पर्याप्त होती है। जहाँ जलवायु न अधिक ठंढी, न अधिक गरम हो, 15 डिग्री फा. से 100 डिग्री फा. तक के ताप वाले पर्यावरण में, इसकी खेती सफल हो सकती है। इसके लिए सबसे उत्तम मिट्टी बलुई दोमट है, पर यह गहरी तथा उत्तम जलोत्सरण वाली होनी चाहिए। भारत के पर्वतीय तथा उपपर्वतीय भागों में इसकी सफल खेती होती है।
