नशा NOUN

1. वह अवस्था जो शराब, भाँग, अफीम या गाँजा आदि मादक द्रव्य खाने या पीने से होती है । मादक द्रव्य के व्यवहार से उत्पन्न होनेवाली दशा । विशेष—शराब, भाँग, गाँजा, अफीम आदि एक प्रकार के विष हैं । इनके व्यवहार से शरीर में एक प्रकार की गरमी उत्पन्न होती है जिससे मनुष्य का मस्तिष्क क्षुब्ध और उत्तेजित हो उठता है, तथा स्मृति (याद) या धारणा कम हो जाती है । इसी दशा को नशा कहते हैं । साधारणतः लोग मानसिक चिंताओं से छूटने या शारीरिक शिथिलता दूर करने के अभिप्राय से मादक द्रव्यों का व्यवहार करते हैं । बहुत से लोग इन द्रव्यों के इतने अभ्यस्त हो जाते हैं कि वे नित्य़ प्रति इनका व्यवहार करते हैं । साधारण नशे की अवस्था में चित्त में अनेक प्रकार की उमंगें उठती हैं, बहुत सी नई नई और विलक्षण बातें सूझती हैं और चित्त कुछ प्रसन्न रहता है । लेकिन जब नशा बहुत हो जाता है तब मनुष्य कै करने लग जाता है अथवा बेहोश हो जाता है ।
2. वह चीज जिससे नशा हो । मादक द्रव्य । नशा चढा़नेवाली चीज । नशीली वस्तु ।
3. धन, विद्या, प्रभुत्व या रूप आदि का घमंड । अभिमान । मद । गर्व ।
