Madagascar, officially the Republic of Madagascar, is an island country comprising the island of Madagascar and numerous smaller peripheral islands. Lying off the southeastern coast of Africa, it is the world's fourth largest island, the second-largest island country and the 44th largest country in the world. Its capital and largest city is Antananarivo.

મડાગાસ્કર, અથવા મેડાગાસ્કર ગણરાજ્ય હિન્દ મહાસાગરમાં આફ્રિકા ખંડના પૂર્વીય તટ પર આવેલા એક દ્વીપ પર વસેલો દેશ છે. મુખ્ય દ્વીપ, જેને મેડાગાસ્કર કહેવામાં આવે છે, તે વિશ્વનો ચોથો સૌથી મોટો ટાપુ (દ્વીપ) છે. અહીં વિશ્વની પાંચ ટકા વનસ્પતિઓ અને જૈવિક પ્રજાતિઓ મોજુદ છે. આ પૈકીની લગભગ ૮૦ પ્રતિશત વિવિધતાઓ માત્ર મડાગાસ્કર ટાપુ પર જ જોવા મળે છે. આ દેશની બે તૃતિયાંશ જનસંખ્યા અંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય ગરીબી રેખા થી નીચેના સ્તરે નિવાસ કરે છે.
