Rotation or rotational motion is the circular movement of an object around a central line, known as axis of rotation. A plane figure can rotate in either a clockwise or counterclockwise sense around a perpendicular axis intersecting anywhere inside or outside the figure at a center of rotation. A solid figure has an infinite number of possible axes and angles of rotation, including chaotic rotation, in contrast to rotation around a fixed axis.

ঘূর্ণন বলতে কোনও বিন্দুকে বা কেন্দ্রকে ঘিরে কোনও বস্তুর বৃত্তাকার গতিকে বোঝায়। একটি ত্রিমাত্রিক বস্তু অসীম সংখ্যক কাল্পনিক রেখাকে ঘিরে ঘূর্ণন সম্পন্ন করতে পারে; এগুলিকে ঐ বস্তুর ঘূর্ণন অক্ষ বলে। যদি অক্ষরেখাটি বস্তুটির ভরকেন্দ্র দিয়ে অতিক্রম করে, তাহলে বলা হয় যে বস্তুটি নিজ অক্ষের উপরে ঘূর্ণনশীল। যেমন পৃথিবীর ভিতর দিয়ে উত্তর-দক্ষিণ মেরু বরাবর একটি সরলরেখা কল্পনা করা হয়, যাকে কেন্দ্র করে পৃথিবী পূর্ব-পশ্চিমে ঘোরে। একে পৃথিবীর অক্ষ বা মেরুরেখা বলে। পৃথিবী তার অক্ষে সম্পূর্ণ একবার ঘুরতে ২৪ ঘণ্টা সময় নেয়।
