In finance, speculation is the purchase of an asset with the hope that it will become more valuable shortly. It can also refer to short sales in which the speculator hopes for a decline in value.

वित्त के सन्दर्भ में अटकलबाजी का अर्थ उस वित्तीय कार्वाही से है जो बिना पर्याप्त विश्लेषण के की जाती है। इस क्रिया में बहुत जोखिम होता है और पूंजी डूबने का संकट आ सकता है। 'अटकलबाजी' और निवेश (इंवेस्टमेंट) में बहुत अन्तर है क्योंकि निवेश भलीभांति विश्लेषण करने के बाद लिये गये क्रय-विक्रय को कहते हैं।
