ਮਟਰ ਇੱਕ ਫੁਲ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਦੋਬੀਜਪਤਰੀ ਪੌਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੜਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਟੋਲੀਆਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਪੱਤੇ ਦੇ ਅਗਲੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਪਤਰਕ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਸ਼ਾਕੀਏ ਪੌਧਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਤਣਾ ਖੋਖਲਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦਾ ਪੱਤਾ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਫੁਲ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਤਿਤਲੀ ਦੇ ਅਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਦੀ ਫਲੀ ਲੰਬੀ, ਚਪਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਬੀਜਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਮਟਰ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਬੀਜ ਦਾ ਭਾਰ 0.1 ਵਲੋਂ 0.36 ਗਰਾਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਟਰ ਠੰਡੇ ਮੌਸਮ ਦੀ ਫਸਲ ਹੈ। ਇਹ 4 ਤੋਂ 5 ਡਿਗਰੀ ਸੈਂਟੀਗ੍ਰੈਡ ਤਾਪਮਾਨ ਤੇ ਵੀ ਉਗਾਈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੋਰਾ ਵੀ ਸਹਿਣ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜੇਕਰ ਤਾਪਮਾਨ 30 ਡਿਗਰੀ ਸੈਂਟੀਗ੍ਰੈਡ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਬੂਟੇ ਉੱਗਣ ਸਮੇਂ ਹੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮੈਦਾਨੀ ਇਲਾਕਿਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਿਜਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਉੱਤਮ ਸਮਾਂ ਅੱਧ ਅਕਤੂਬਰ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਧ ਨਵੰਬਰ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਠੀਕ ਵਾਧੇ ਲਈ 20 ਤੋਂ 25 ਡਿਗਰੀ ਸੈਂਟੀਗ੍ਰੈਡ ਤਾਪਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ੇਰਗਿੱਲ (ਗੱਲ-ਬਾਤ) 01:16, 7 ਨਵੰਬਰ 2015 (UTC)

Pea is a pulse, vegetable or fodder crop, but the word often refers to the seed or sometimes the pod of this flowering plant species.
