राजपूत NOUN

राजपूताने में रहनेवाले क्षत्रियों के कुछ विशिष्ट वंश जो सब मिलाकर एक बड़ी जाति के रूप में माने जाते हैं । विशेष— 'राजपूत' शब्द वास्तव में 'राजपुत्र' शब्द का अपभ्रंश है और इस देश में मुसलमानों के आने के पश्चात प्रचलित हुआ है । प्राचीन काल में राजकुमार अथवा राजवंश के लोग 'राजपुत्र' कहलाते थे, इसीलिये क्षत्रिय वर्ग के सब लोंगों को मुसलमान लोग राजपूत कहने लगे थे । अब यह शब्द राजपूताने में रहनेवाले क्षत्रियों की एक जाति का ही सूचक हो गया है । पहले कुछ पाश्चात्य विद्वान् कहा करते थे कि 'राजपूत' लोग शक आदि विदेशी जातियों की संतान हैं और वे क्षत्रिय तथा आर्य नहीं हैं । परंतु अब यह बात प्रमाणित हो गई है कि राजपूत लोग क्षत्रिय तथा आर्य हैं । यह ठीक है कि कुछ जंगली जातियों के समान हूण आदि कुछ विदेशी जातियाँ भी राजपूतों में मिल गई हैं । रही शकों की वाता, सो वे भी आर्य ही थे, यद्यपि भारत के बाहर बसते थे । उनका मेल ईरानी आर्यों के साथ आधिक था । चौहान, सोलंकी, प्रतिहार, परमार, सिसोदिया आदि राजपूतों के प्रसिद्ध कुल हैं । ये लोग प्राचीन काल से बहुत ही वीर, योद्धा, देशभक्त तथा स्वामिभक्त होते आए हैं ।

राजपूत भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप से उत्पत्ति वाले वंशों की वंशावली है जिसमें विचारधारा और सामाजिक स्थिति के साथ स्थानीय समूह और जातियों की विशाल बहुघटकी समूह शामिल हैं। राजपूत शब्द में योद्धाओं से सम्बंधित विभिन्न पितृवंशात्मक गोत्र शामिल हैं: विभिन्न गोत्र स्वयं के राजपूत होने का दावा करती हैं यद्यपि सभी को सार्वभौमिक रूप से स्वीकृत नहीं किया जाता।

Rajput, also called Thakur, is a large multi-component cluster of castes, kin bodies, and local groups, sharing social status and ideology of genealogical descent originating from the Indian subcontinent. The term Rajput covers various patrilineal clans historically associated with warriorhood: several clans claim Rajput status, although not all claims are universally accepted. According to modern scholars, almost all Rajput clans originated from peasant or pastoral communities.
