किसी इष्ट वस्तु या सुख आदि को प्राप्त करने की इच्छा । प्रिय या आभमत वस्तु का प्राप्त करने की आभिलापा । प्रिय या सुखद वस्तु की ओर आकर्षण या प्रवृत्ति । सांसारिक सुखों की चाह । विशेष—पतंजलि ने इसे पाँच प्रकार के क्लेशों में से एक प्रकार का क्लेश माना है । उनके मत से जो व्यक्ति सुख भोगता है, उसकी प्रवृत्ति और अधिक सुख प्राप्त करने की ओर होती हे; और इसी प्रवृति का नाम उन्होंने राग रखा हे । इसका मूल आवेद्या ओर परिणाम क्लेश है ।

राग सुरों के आरोहण और अवतरण का ऐसा नियम है जिससे संगीत की रचना की जाती है। पाश्चात्य संगीत में "improvisation" इसी प्रकार की पद्धति है।

A raga is a melodic framework for improvisation in Indian classical music akin to a melodic mode. Rāga is central to classical Indian music and a unique feature of the tradition: no equivalent concept exists in Western classical music. Each rāga consists of an array of melodic structures with musical motifs; and, from the perspective of the Indian tradition, the resulting music has the ability to "colour the mind" as it engages the emotions of the audience.
