बीज NOUN

1. फूलवाले वृक्षों का गर्भांड जिससे वृक्ष अकुरित होकर उत्पन्न होता हे । बीया । तुख्म । दाना । विशेष—वह गर्भांड एक छिलके मे बंद रहता है ओर इसमें अव्यक्त रूप से भावी वृक्ष का भ्रूण रहता हे । जब इस गर्भांड को उपयुक्त जलवायु ओर स्थान मिलता हे तब वह भ्रूण जिसमे अंकुर अव्यक्त रहता है, प्रबुदध होकर बढ़ता ओर अंकुर रूप में परिणत हो जाता है । यही अंकुर समय पांकर बढ़ता है ओर बढ़कर वैसा ही पेड़ हो जाता है जैसे पेड़ के गर्भांड से वह स्वयं निकला था । कि० प्र०—उगना —डालना । —बोना २. प्रधान कारण । मूल प्रकृति ।

वनस्पति विज्ञान में, बीज एक अविकसित पौधा भ्रूण और एक सुरक्षात्मक बाह्यावरण में संलग्न खाद्य भंडार है। अधिक सामान्यतः, "बीज" शब्द का अर्थ कुछ भी है जिसे बोया जा सकता है, जिसमें बीज और भूसी या कन्द शामिल हो सकते हैं। बीज पके हुए बीजाण्ड के उत्पाद हैं, पराग से शुक्राणु द्वारा भ्रूण की थैली को निषेचित करने के बाद, एक युग्मज का निर्माण होता है। एक बीज के भीतर भ्रूण युग्मज से विकसित होता है, बीजाण्ड के चारों ओर एक आवरण बनाता है, और विकास रुकने से पहले मातृ पौधे के भीतर एक निश्चित आकार तक बढ़ता है।

Seeds are the product of the ripened ovule, after the embryo sac is fertilized by sperm from pollen, forming a zygote. The embryo within a seed develops from the zygote and grows within the mother plant to a certain size before growth is halted.
