जब किसी समूह का अन्य समूहों के ऊपर राजनीतिक, आर्थिक, वैचारिक या सामाजिक दबदबा मौजूद हो तो इसे प्राधान्य या वर्चस्व (Hegemony) कहते हैं। 'हेजीमोनी' शब्द का मूल अर्थ ग्रीस के कुछ नगर-राष्ट्रों का दूसरे पड़ोसी नगरों पर राजनीतिक दबदबा था। किन्तु अब इसका अनेकानेक सन्दर्भों में प्रयोग किया जाने लगा है। अन्तोनियो ग्राम्शी जैसे कुछ मार्क्सवादी सिद्धान्तकारों ने सांस्कृतिक बर्चस्व की बात की है।
