  1. अपने पास या अधिकार में करना । ऐसी स्थिति में करना जिससे अपने उपयोग या व्यवहार में आ सके । उपलब्ध करना । लाभ करना । प्राप्त करना । हासिल करना । जैसे,—उसके हाथ में गई वस्तु कोई नहीं पा सकता ।
  2. फल या पुरस्कार रूप में कुछ पाना । कृत कर्म का भला बुरा परिणाम भोगना । जैसे,—(क) जागे सो पावे, सोवे सो खोवे । (ख) जैसा किया वैसा पाया ।
  3. किसी को दी हुई चीज वापस मिलना या कोई खोई हुई चीज फिर मिलना । जैसे,—(क) यह किताब तुसमें हमने तीन बरस के बाद आज पाई है । (ख) यह अँगूठी मैंने चार बरस के बाद आज पाई है ।
  4. पता पाना । भेद पाना । तह तक पहुँचना । समझना । जैसे,—(क) आपने उसका रोग भी पाया है या यों ही नुसखा लिखते हैं । (ख) मैंने तुम्हारे मन की बात पा ली ।
  5. किसी की कोई बात अपने तक पहुँचना । कुछ सुन या जान लेना । जैसे, सुध पाना समाचार पाना, सँदेशा पाना ।
  6. देखना । साक्षात् करना । जैसे,—(क) तुमको जैसा सुना था वैसा ही पाया । (ख) भारत में अब सिंह प्रायः नही पाए जाते ।
  7. अनुभव करना । भोगना । उठाना । जैसे, दुख पाना, सुख पाना ।
  8. समर्थ होना । सकना । विशेष—इस अर्थ में पाना क्रिया संयोज्य होती है और जिस क्रिया या धातु के आगे लगाई जाती है उससे शक्यता या समाप्ति की शक्यता का अर्थ निकलता है । जहाँ समाप्ति का भाव होता है वहाँ धातु के आगे यह क्रिया आती है । जैसे,—तुम वहाँ जाने नहीं पाओगे, मैं अभी वह चिट्ठी नहीं लिख पाया ।
  9. पास तक पहुँचना । जैसे,—(क) मत दौड़ो, तुम उसे नहीं पा सकते । (ख) इस डाल को तुम उछलकर नहीं पा सकते ।
  10. किसी बात में किसी के बराबर पहुँचना । बराबर होना । जैसे,—पढ़ने में तुम उसे नहीं पा सकते ।
  11. भोजन करना । आहार करना । खाना । जैसे, प्रसाद पाना (साधु) ।
  12. ज्ञान प्राप्त करना । अनुभव । करना । जानना । समझना । जैसे, किसी का मतलब पाना ।
