नेपाल NOUN

1. हिंदुस्तान के उत्तर में एक रुखा पहाड़ी देश जो हिमालय के तट पर है । विशेष— नेपाल नाम के संबंध में कई प्रकार के अनुमान हैं । कुछ लोग कहते हैं कि तिब्बत तथा उसके आसपात की अनार्य जातियाँ अपनी भाषा में उस प्रदेश को जहाँ गोरखे बसते हैं 'पाल' कहती है । सिकिम, भूटान आदि के लोग नेपाल के पूर्वी भाक को 'ने' कहते हैं । तिब्बती भाषा में पाल पशम या ऊन को भी कहते हैं । लेपचा, नेवार आदि जातियों की भाषा में 'ने' शब्द का अर्थ पहाड़ की गुफा लिया जाता है । तिब्बत और बरमा के बौद्ध 'ने' शब्द से पवित्र गुहा या देवता द्वारा रक्षित स्थान का भाव लेते हैं । कुछ लोगों का कथन है कि नेवार जाति ही से नेपाल नाम पड़ा । पंडित लोग शुद्ध शब्द 'नयपाल' मानकर 'न्याय का पालन करनेवाला' अर्थ करते हैं । रामायण महाभारत आदि में इस देश का नाम नहीं मिलता । पुराणों में स्कंदपुराण के रेवाखंड, नागरखंड और सह्यद्रिखंड में तथा गरुड़ पुराण में इस देश खा थोड़ा बहुत उल्लेख मिलता है । बृहत्संहिता में भी नेपाल का नाम आया है । शक्तिसंगमतंत्र, बृहन्नीलतंत्र और वाराहीतंत्र आदि कई तंत्रों में नेपाल का वर्णन मिलता है । शक्तिसंगमतंत्र में जटेश्वर से लेकर योगेश्वर तक के देश को नेपाल कहा है और उसे बहुत सिद्धिदायक बतलाया है । जैन हरिवंश तथा हेमचंद्र की स्थविरावली में भी नेपाल का उल्लेख मिलता है । नैपाली बौद्धों के तंत्रों और पुराणों में नेपाल का माहात्म्य अलौकिक कथाओं के सहित पाया जाता है ।

नेपाल एक बहुत ख़ूबसूरत दक्षिण एशियाई स्थलरुद्ध राष्ट्र है। नेपाल के उत्तर मे चीन का स्वायत्तशासी प्रदेश तिब्बत है और दक्षिण, पूर्व व पश्चिम में भारत अवस्थित है। नेपाल के 81.3 प्रतिशत नागरिक हिन्दू धर्मावलम्बी हैं। नेपाल विश्व के प्रतिशत आधार पर सबसे बड़ा हिन्दू धर्मावलम्बी राष्ट्र है। नेपाल की राजभाषा नेपाली है और नेपाल के लोगों को भी नेपाली कहा जाता है।
