झीँगा NOUN

1. एक प्रकार की मछली जो प्रायः सारे भारत की नदियों और जलाशयों आदि में पाई जाती है । झिंगवा । विशेष— इस मछली के अगले भाग मे छाती के नीचे बहुत पतले पतले ओर लंबे आठ पैर होते है; इसीलिये प्राणिशास्त्रज्ञ इसे केकड़े आदि के अंतर्गत मानते हैं । आठ पैरों के अतिरिक्त इसके दो बहुत लंबे धारदार डंक भी होते हैं । इसकी छोटी बड़ी अनेक जातियाँ होती हैं और यह लंबाई में चार अंगुल से प्रायः एक हाथ तक होती है । इसका सिर और मुँह मोटा होता है और दुम की तरफ इसकी मोटाई बराबार कम होती जाती है । यह मछली अपना शरीर इस प्रकार झुका सकती है कि सिर के साथ इसकी दुम लग जाती है । इसके सिर पर उँगलियों के आकार के दों छोटे छोटे अंग होते हैं जिनके सिरों पर आँखे होती हैं । इन आँखों से बिना मुड़े यह चारों ओर देख सकती है । यह अपने अंड़े सदा अपने पेट के अगले भाग में छोती पर ही रखती है । इसके शरीर के पिछले आधे भाग पर बहुत कड़े छिलके होते है । जो समय समय पर आप- से आप साँप की केचुली की तरह उतर जाते हैं । छिलके उतर जाने पर कुछ समय तक इसका शरीर बहुत कोमल रहता है पर फिर ज्यों का त्यों हो जाता हैं । इसका मांस खाने में बहुत स्वादिष्ट होता है । बहुधा मांस के लिये यह सुखाकर भी रखी जाती है ।
2. एक प्रकार का धान जो अगहन में तैयार होता है । इसका चावल बहुत दिनों तक रह सकता है ।
3. एक प्रकार का कीड़ा जो कपास की फसल को हानि पहुँचाता हैं ।

झींगा एक जलीय जन्तु है। इसका शरीर सिफैलोथोरैक्स एवं उदर में विभक्त होता है। सिर में एक जोड़ा संयुक्त आँख एवं दो जोड़े एन्टिनी होते हैं। इसमें पाँच जोड़े पैर एवं पाँच जोड़ं शाखांग होते हैं। श्वसन की क्रिया गिल्स द्वारा होती है। चिंराट (श्रिम्प्) और झींगा दोनों समान हैं। दोनो की शारीरिक बनावट में अन्तर है। इनमें कोलेस्ट्रोल बढ़ाने की क्षमता होती है। यह एक हलका समुद्री भोजन है। यह मुख्य भोजन है समुद्र में रहने वाले जंतुओं का। इसे बंगाली भाषा में चिंगडी माछ कहते है एवं उडिया भाषा में चिंगुडी माछो कहते है।
