વ્યાયામ એ એક ગતિવિધિ છે જે શરીરને સ્વસ્થ રાખવાની સાથે વ્યક્તિના સમગ્ર સ્વાસ્થ્યને પણ વધારે છે. વ્યાયામ ઘણાં અલગ અલગ કારણો માટે કરવામાં આવે છે, જેમાં સામેલ છે: માંસપેશીઓને મજબૂત બનાવવાનું, હૃદય પ્રણાલીને સુદૃઢ બનાવવાનું, એથલેટિક કૌશલ્ય વધારવાનું, વજન ઘટાડવાનું કે પછી માત્ર આનંદ માટે. લગાતાર તેમજ નિયમિત શારીરિક વ્યાયામ, સ્વરક્ષણ પ્રણાલીને વધૂ જાગ્રત કરે છે અને હૃદય રોગ, રક્તવાહિની રોગ, ટાઇપ ૨ મધુપ્રમેહ તથા મોટાવો જેવા રાજરોગોને રોકવામાં મદદ કરે છે. વ્યાયામ માનસિક સ્વાસ્થ્ય પણ સુધારે છે અને તણાવ રોકવામાં પણ મદદ કરે છે. કિશોરાવસ્થાનો મોટાપો એક વધતી જતી વૈશ્વિક ચિંતાનો વિષય છે અને શારીરિક વ્યાયામ દ્વારા બાળપણના મોટાપાના પ્રભાવને ઓછો કરવામાં મદદ મળી શકે છે.
