కెమెరా అనగా స్థిర చిత్రాలను లేదా అలాంటి స్థిర చిత్రాల క్రమాన్ని చలన చిత్రంగా గాని, వీడియోలుగా గాని తీయడానికి ఉపయోగపడే ఒక వైద్యుత (ఎలక్ట్రానిక్) పరికరం. ఈ పదం లాటిన్ భాషలోని కెమెరా అబ్స్క్యురా అనే పదం నుండి ఆవిర్భవించింది. కెమెరా అబ్స్క్యురా అనగా చీకటి గది అని అర్థం. ప్రారంభ దశలో మొత్తం గదిని చిత్రాలను తీయడానికి వాడేవారు.ఈనాడు మనం చూస్తున్న అత్యాధునిక కెమెరాలకి కెమెరా అబ్స్క్యూరా నే మూలం.
