A lecture is an oral presentation intended to present information or teach people about a particular subject, for example by a university or college teacher. Lectures are used to convey critical information, history, background, theories, and equations. A politician's speech, a minister's sermon, or even a business person's sales presentation may be similar in form to a lecture. Usually the lecturer will stand at the front of the room and recite information relevant to the lecture's content.

ఉపన్యాసంను ఆంగ్లంలో లెక్చర్ అంటారు. విద్యను నోటి ద్వారా బోధించడాన్నే ఉపన్యాసం అంటారు. ఒక ప్రత్యేకమైన విషయాన్ని లేక సమాచారాన్ని నోటితో బోధించడానికి లేక ప్రదర్శించడానికి ఉద్దేశించబడిన విద్యే ఉపన్యాసం. ఉదాహరణకు కళాశాల లేదా విశ్వవిద్యాలయం యొక్క ఉపాధ్యాయులు విద్యార్థులకు నోటి ద్వారా విద్యను బోధించడం. ఉపన్యాసం ఇచ్చే వ్యక్తిని ఉపన్యాసకుడు అంటారు. ఉపన్యాసకుడిని ఆంగ్లంలో లెక్చరర్ అంటారు. చరిత్ర, నేపథ్యం, సిద్ధాంతాలు, సమీకరణాలు వంటి క్లిష్టమైన సమాచారాన్ని తెలియజేయడానికి ఉపన్యాసాలను ఉపయోగిస్తారు. సాధారణంగా విద్యాగదిలో లెక్చరర్ ఉపన్యాసం ఇచ్చేటప్పుడు విద్యార్థులందరికి కనపడే విధంగా వారందరికి ముందువైపున నిలబడి ఉపన్యాసమిస్తాడు.
