Propulsion is the generation of force by any combination of pushing or pulling to modify the translational motion of an object, which is typically a rigid body but may also concern a fluid. The term is derived from two Latin words: pro, meaning before or forward; and pellere, meaning to drive. A propulsion system consists of a source of mechanical power, and a propulsor.

உந்துகை என்பது இயக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும் விசையைத் தோற்றுவிப்பதற்கான மூலம் ஆகும். வழமையாக ஓர் உந்துகைத் தொகுதி என்பது எந்திர ஆற்றல் மூலத்தையும், அவ்வாற்றலை இயக்கத்துக்குப் பயன்படுத்தும் உந்துவிப்பானையும் கொண்டதாகும். தற்காலத் தொழில்நுட்பத்தில் பல்வேறு வகை பொறிகள் ஆற்றல் மூலங்களாகவும், உந்திகள் (Propeller), சக்கரங்கள் (Wheels) அல்லது உந்துகைத் தூம்புவாய் போன்றவை உந்துவிப்பானாகவும் செயல்படுகின்றன.
