A postscript may be a sentence, a paragraph, or occasionally many paragraphs added, often hastily and incidentally, after the signature of a letter or (sometimes) the main body of an essay or book. The term comes from the Latin post scriptum, an expression meaning "written after" . In a book or essay, a more carefully composed addition is called an afterword. The word "postscript" has poetically been used to refer to any sort of addendum to some main work even if it is not attached to a main work, for example Søren Kierkegaard's book titled Concluding Unscientific Postscript.

பின்குறிப்பு (postscript) எனப்படுவது, ஒரு கடிதத்தின் முக்கிய பகுதி எழுதப்பட்டபிறகு சேர்க்கப்படுவதாகும். இது ஆங்கிலத்தில் PS அல்லது P. S. என்று சுருக்கி அழைக்கப்படும். தமிழில் பி.கு. என சுருக்கி அழைப்பர். post scriptum எனும் இலத்தீன் வார்த்தைக்கு 'பின்னர் எழுதப்பட்டது' என பொருள். post scriptum எனும் இலத்தீன் வார்த்தையிலிருந்து மருவி வந்தது, postscript எனும் ஆங்கில வார்த்தை.
