Youth is the time of life when one is young. The word, youth, can also mean the time between childhood and adulthood (maturity), but it can also refer to one's peak, in terms of health or the period of life known as being a young adult. Youth is also defined as "the appearance, freshness, vigor, spirit, etc., characteristic of one, who is young". Its definitions of a specific age range varies, as youth is not defined chronologically as a stage that can be tied to specific age ranges; nor can its end point be linked to specific activities, such as taking unpaid work, or having sexual relations.

ಯೌವನವು ಒಬ್ಬರು ಪ್ರಾಯದವರಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗಿನ ಜೀವನದ ಸಮಯ, ಆದರೆ ಹಲವುವೇಳೆ ಇದರ ಅರ್ಥ ಬಾಲ್ಯ ಹಾಗು ಪಡೆತನದ ನಡುವಿನ ಸಮಯ (ಪ್ರೌಢಾವಸ್ಥೆ). ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ದೈಹಿಕ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆ ಸ್ಥಗಿತಗೊಂಡ ಅನಂತರದ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಜೀವನದ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಗಳನ್ನು ರೂಢಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿರುವ ಹಲವಾರು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಅವಧಿ (ಯೂತ್). ಹರೆಯ, ತಾರುಣ್ಯ ಪರ್ಯಾಯ ನಾಮಗಳು. ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ 18-20 ವರ್ಷಗಳು ಕಳೆದ ಮತ್ತು 25-30 ವರ್ಷ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಯುವಕ ಯುವತಿಯರೆಂದು ಸಂಬೋಧಿಸುವುದು ವಾಡಿಕೆ. ಯೌವನದ ಭಾಗವಾಗಿರುವ ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನ ಪರಿಮಿತಿಯ ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಗಳು ಬದಲಾಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಒಬ್ಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ವಾಸ್ತವಿಕ ಪ್ರೌಢಾವಸ್ಥೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಕಾಲಾನುಕ್ರಮದ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನ ನಡುವೆ ಸಾಮ್ಯತೆಯಿಲ್ಲದಿರಬಹುದು, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರೌಢವಲ್ಲದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಇರಬಹುದು.
