Poultry are domesticated birds kept by humans for the purpose of harvesting animal products such as meat, eggs or feathers. The practice of raising poultry is known as poultry farming. These birds are most typically members of the superorder Galloanserae (fowl), especially the order Galliformes. The term also includes waterfowls of the family Anatidae but does not include wild birds hunted for food known as game or quarry.

आर्थिक महत्व के पक्षी जिनका पालन उनके अंडे या मांस के लिए होता है उन्हें पोल्ट्री पक्षी एवं इस उद्योग को पोल्ट्री उद्योग कहते हैं। मुर्गी एवं बत्तख प्रमुख पोल्ट्री पक्षी हैं जिनसे अंडा एवं मांस दोनों प्राप्त होते हैं। आधुनिक पोल्ट्री में छोटे आकार एवं कम अंडा देने वाली मुर्गीयों के स्थान पर रोड आलैंड, लाल सफेद लेग हार्न, फायोपोलिथ रौक, बाइन डाट, डोर्किग मिनोरका आदि अधिक अंडे देने वाली मुर्गियों के पालन को बढ़ावा दिया जा रहा है।
