Assassination is the willful killing, by a sudden, secret, or planned attack, of a person—especially if prominent or important. It may be prompted by grievances, notoriety, financial, military, political or other motives. Many times governments, corporations, organized crime or their agents order assassinations. Acts of assassination have been performed since ancient times. A person who carries out an assassination is called an assassin or hitman.

हत्या (English:Assassination) एक महत्वपूर्ण या लोकप्रिय व्यक्ति की हत्या है। जैसे कि राष्ट्रप्रमुख, सरकार का मुखिया, राजनेता, एक शाही परिवार का सदस्य या सीईओ। एक हत्या को राजनीतिक और सैन्य उद्देश्यों से प्रेरित किया जा सकता है, या वित्तीय लाभ के लिए किया जा सकता है, एक शिकायत का बदला लेने के लिए, प्रसिद्धि या कुख्याति प्राप्त करने की इच्छा से, या एक सैन्य, सुरक्षा, विद्रोही या गुप्त कारण से. हत्या के कार्य प्राचीन काल से किए जाते रहे हैं। एक व्यक्ति जिसने हत्या की है उसे हत्यारा (English:assassin) या हिटमैन कहा जाता है।
