ভেলা একটি সরল কাঠামোর জলযান। সচরাচর ছোট নদী বা খাল পারাপারের জন্য ভেলা ব্যবহৃত হয়। ৫-৬টি কলাগাছের কাণ্ডকে পাশাপাশি সাজিয়ে কোনোক্রমে সংযুক্ত করে বাংলাদেশের গ্রামীণ এলাকায় ভেলা বানানো হয়ে থাকে। সাপে কাটা মৃত মানুষকে ভেলায় ভাসিয়ে দেয়া ভারতের একটি প্রচীন সংস্কার। সমুদ্রে আপৎকালীন সময়ে ভেসে থাকার জন্য বায়ুপূর্ণ রাবার বা প্লাস্টিকের ভেলা ব্যবহৃত হয়।
