பல் பெரும்பாலான முதுகெலும்பி வகையான விலங்குகளின் தாடையில் காணப்படுகிறது. இதன் முதன்மைப் பயன்பாடு உணவைக் கிழித்து, விறாண்டி, சப்பி உண்பதாகும். சில விலங்குகளுக்குப் பற்கள் தாக்கவும் தற்பாதுகாப்புக்கும் பயன்படுகின்றன. பல் வேர்கள் முரசினால் மூடப்பட்டுள்ளன. மனிதர்களுக்கு இருமுறை பற்கள் முளைக்கின்றன. பாற்பற்கள் ஆறு மாதத்தில் முளைக்கத் தொடங்குகின்றன. சில குழந்தைகள் பற்களுடன் பிறப்பதுண்டு. சுறாக்களுக்கு இரண்டு வாரங்களுக்கு ஒரு தடவை புதிய பற்கள் முளைக்கின்றன.

A tooth is a hard, calcified structure found in the jaws of many vertebrates and used to break down food.
