पक्षी (paksi) - Meaning in English

पक्षी हे उंच उडणारे दोन पायांवर चालणारे पिसे असलेले गरम रक्ताचे पृष्ठवंशीय जीव आहेत. जीवशास्त्रानुसार पक्ष्यांची व्याख्या फेदर्ड बायपेड अशी होते. याचा अर्थ पिसे असलेले दोन पायांचे प्राणी. पक्ष्यांचे सर्वांत ठळक वैशिष्ट्य म्हणजे त्यांची उडण्याची क्षमता. ही क्षमता पक्ष्यांना इतर पृष्ठवंशीय प्राण्यांपेक्षा वेगळे ठरवते. पेंग्विन व शहामृग असे फारच थोडके पक्षी वगळता इतर सर्व पक्ष्यांना उडता येते. त्यांचे दुसरे वैशिष्ट्य म्हणजे त्यांची पिसे. सर्व पक्ष्यांना पिसे, चोच व चार कप्याचे हृदय असते. हृदयाच्या चार कप्यांमुळे पक्षी उष्ण रक्ताचे आहेत. पिसांच्या व चोचीच्या रचनेमुळे पक्षी वजनाने अतिशय हलके असतात.पिसांच्या व चोचीच्या रचनेमुळे पक्षी वजनाने अतिशय हलके असतात. पिसे त्यांचे थंडीपासून सं‍रक्षण करतात व सर्वांत महत्त्वाचे म्हणजे उडण्याची शक्ती देतात.

Wings, which are modified forelimbs, gave birds the ability to fly, although further evolution has led to the loss of flight in some birds, including ratites, penguins, and diverse endemic island species. The digestive and respiratory systems of birds are also uniquely adapted for flight. Some bird species of aquatic environments, particularly seabirds and some waterbirds, have further evolved for swimming. The study of birds is called ornithology.
