കാണ്ടാമൃഗം (kantamrgam) - Meaning in English

ഓരോകാലിലും വിരലുകൾ പോലെ തോന്നാവുന്ന മൂന്ന് കുളമ്പുകളുള്ള ഒരു സസ്തനിയാണ് കാണ്ടാമൃഗം(ഇംഗ്ലീഷ്:Rhino, Rhinoceros). ഒറ്റയക്കക്കുളമ്പുകളുള്ള കുതിര, ടാപിർ തുടങ്ങിയവയുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലാണ് ഇവയും പെടുന്നത്. കാണ്ടാമൃഗങ്ങളെയെല്ലാം തന്നെ റൈനൊസിറോറ്റിഡെ(Rhinocerotidae) എന്ന കുടുംബത്തിലാണുൾപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുള്ളത്. ഈ കുടുംബത്തിൽ അഞ്ച് ഉപജാതികളുണ്ട് ഇതിൽ രണ്ടെണ്ണം ആഫ്രിക്കയിലും ബാക്കിയുള്ളവ ഏഷ്യയിലും കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.
