ঘোড়া(Equus ferus caballus) Equus ferusএর এখনও বিদ্যমান উপজাতির দুটির মধ্যে অন্যতম। এটি Equidae শ্রেণীকরণ সূত্র পরিবারের অন্তর্গত একটি অদ্ভুতদর্শন বক্রপদ খুড়ওয়ালা স্তন্যপায়ী প্রাণী। ঘোড়া বিগত ৪৫ থেকে ৫৫ লক্ষ বছর ধরে Hyracotherium ছোট বহু বক্রপদ জীব থেকে অভিব্যক্ত বর্তমানের বৃহৎ একক বক্রপদ প্রাণী। ৪০০০ খ্রিষ্টপূর্বাব্দ নাগাদ মানুষ,ঘোড়াকে ঘরে পোষা শুরু করে,এবং তাদের পোষ মানান ৩০০০ খ্রিষ্টপূর্বাব্দে বহুলভাবে শুরু হয়েছিল বলে ধারণা করা হয়। ঘোড়ার উপজাতির মধ্যে ক্যাবালাসকে পোষ মানান হয়,যদিও এদের কিছু পোষ্য দল বুনো ঘোড়ার মত খোলা জায়গায় বা জঙ্গলে বাস করে। ঘোড়া বা ঘোটক দ্রুতগামী চতুষ্পদ জন্তু যার পিঠে চড়া যায়। দ্রুতগামী বলে এর নাম তুরগ, তুরঙ্গম।

The horse is a domesticated, one-toed, hoofed mammal. It belongs to the taxonomic family Equidae and is one of two extant subspecies of Equus ferus. The horse has evolved over the past 45 to 55 million years from a small multi-toed creature, close to Eohippus, into the large, single-toed animal of today. Horses in the subspecies caballus are domesticated, although some domesticated populations live in the wild as feral horses.
