पीठ (pitha) - Meaning in English

धान्य जात्यात दळून त्याची जी बारीक बारीक पुड होते, त्याला पीठ असे म्हणतात. पीठापासून पाव व इतर खाद्यप्रकार बनवले जातात. कच्चे धान्य, मुळे, कडधान्य, किंवा बिया दळून तयार केली जाणारी पावडर म्हणजे पीठ. पीठाचा वेगवेगळे अन्न तयार करण्यासाठी वापर केला जातो. तृणधान्याचे पीठ, विशेषतः गव्हाचे पीठ, हा ब्रेड मधील मुख्य घटक आहे, जो काही संस्कृतीमध्ये मुख्य अन्न आहे. पुरातन काळापासून मेसोअमेरिकन पाककृतीमध्ये मक्याचे पीठ महत्त्वाचे राहीले आहे आणि अमेरिकेमध्ये ते मुख्य अन्न आहे. मध्य आणि उत्तर युरोप मध्ये राईचे पीठ हा ब्रेडमधील मुख्य घटक आहे.
