Theology is the study of religious belief from a religious perspective. More narrowly it is the study of the nature of the divine. It is taught as an academic discipline, typically in universities and seminaries. It occupies itself with the unique content of analyzing the supernatural, but also deals with religious epistemology, asks and seeks to answer the question of revelation. Revelation pertains to the acceptance of God, gods, or deities, as not only transcendent or above the natural world, but also willing and able to interact with the natural world and to reveal themselves to humankind.

धर्ममीमांसा या ईश्वरमीमांसा देवत्व अथवा परमात्मा की प्रकृति का,तथा अधिक व्यापक रूप से, धार्मिक विश्वास का व्यवस्थित अध्ययन है। किसी धार्मिक संप्रदाय के द्वारा स्वीकृत विश्वासों व सिद्धांतों का सुव्यवस्थित संग्रह, एवं उसका तार्किक अध्य्यन ही उस संप्रदाय की धर्ममीमांसा है। यह एक अधिविद्य शास्त्र(अकादमिक विधा) के रुप में विश्वविद्यालयों, धर्मप्रशिक्षणालयों,व पारंपरिक गुरुकुलों में पढाया जाता है। धर्ममीमांसा, विभिन्न प्रकार के विश्लेषण और तर्कयुक्ति का उपयोग कर,धर्म एवं धार्मिक विषयों को समझने, समझाने, परीक्षण करने, आलोचना करने, बचाव व प्रचार-प्रसार करने, उसमें सुधार करने, उसे न्यायोचित ठहराने का प्रयास करता है; धर्ममीमांसा का उपयोग एक धार्मिक परंपरा की तुलना करने,उसे चुनौती देने या विरोध करने(जैसे अधार्मिकता)के लिये भी किया जा सकता है। धर्ममीमांसा एक धार्मिक परंपरा के माध्यम से कुछ वर्तमान स्थिति या आवश्यकता को संबोधित करने,या दुनिया का निर्वचन करने के संभावित तरीकों का पता लगाने में एक धर्मविद् की सहायता कर सकता है।
