Shakti in Hinduism, is the fundamental esoteric energy that underlies and sustains all existence. In Hindu theological view, Shakti is the energizing power of Hindu Gods. Conceived of as feminine in essence, Shakti is generally personified as the wife of a particular Hindu deity, especially of Shiva.

शक्ति, ईश्वर की वह कल्पित माया है जो उसकी आज्ञा से सब काम करनेवाली और सृष्टिरचना करनेवाली मानी जाती है। यह अनंतरूपा और अनंतसामर्थ्यसंपन्ना कही गई है। यही शक्ति जगत्रूप में व्यक्त होती है और प्रलयकाल में समग्र चराचर जगत् को अपने में विलीन करके अव्यक्तरूपेण स्थित रहती है। यह जगत् वस्तुत: उसकी व्यवस्था का ही नाम है।
