కేశఖండన, కేశాలంకరణ చేసే వ్యక్తిని క్షురకుడు లేదా మంగలి అంటారు. సామాన్యంగా వీరిలో నాయీ బ్రాహ్మణ కులస్తులు ఎక్కువగా ఉంటారు. మంగళ వాయిద్యాలు వాయించేవారు కనుక మంగళ అని పేరు వచ్చింది. దేశంలో అనేక ప్రాంతాల్లో ముస్లింలు కూడా నాయీ (క్షౌర) వృత్తి చేస్తున్నారు. మనదేశంలో ఎక్కువగా మంగలి కులస్తులే మంగలివృత్తిని ఆచరించినా కూడా ఈ వృత్తిని ఆచరిస్తున్నారు. హైదరాబాదు, నెల్లూరు లోని కొన్ని ప్రాంతాలలో మహమ్మదీయులు ఈ వృత్తిని ఆచరిస్తున్నారు. అలాగే కొన్ని అరబిక్ దేశాలలో కూడా ఇతర మతస్తులు ఈ వృత్తిని ఆచరిస్తున్నారు.

Barbershops have been noted places of social interaction and public discourse since at least classical antiquity. In some instances, barbershops were also public forums. They were the locations of open debates, voicing public concerns, and engaging citizens in discussions about contemporary issues.
