ਸੰਚਾਰ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਕੇਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਅਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਦਾਨ-ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਦੀ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ "ਸੰਚਾਰ"(सञ्चारः) ਤੋਂ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ "ਜੋੜਨਾ", "ਦਖਲ" ਜਾਂ "ਮਿਲਾਪ"। ਸੰਚਾਰ ਇੱਕ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਭੇਜਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਕਿਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੂਚਕਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦਾ ਆਦਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਮ ਬੋਲਚਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ:-
