പരന്നതും വിസ്തൃതമായതുമായ ഭൂപ്രകൃതിയാണ് സമതലം(Plane). പൊതുവേ സമതലങ്ങൾ സമുദ്ര നിരപ്പിന്റെ അതേ ഉയരത്തിലാണ് കാണുക എങ്കിലും, പീഠഭൂമി പോലുള്ള പ്രദേശങ്ങളുടെ മുകൾ ഭാഗവും സമതലം ആയിരിക്കും. ലാവാ പ്രവാഹം,ജല പ്രവാഹം, മഞ്ഞു വീഴ്ച, മണ്ണൊലിപ്പ് തുടങ്ങിയ കാരണങ്ങൾ കൊണ്ട് സമതലങ്ങൾ രൂപപ്പെടുന്നു.
