- एक रोग का नाम जिसमें रक्त के दूषित हो जाने से शरीर का चमडा़ पीले रंग का हो जाता है । विशेष— सुश्रुत में लिखा है कि अधिक स्त्रीगमन करने, खटाई और नमक खाने शराब पीने, मिट्टी खाने, दिन को सोने तथा इसी प्रकार के और कुपथ्य करने से यह रोग हो जाता है । चमडे़ का फटना, आँख के गोलक का सूजना और पेशाब पाखाने के रंग का पीला पड़ जाना इस रोग का पूर्वलक्षण है । यह कफज, वातज, पित्तज और सन्निपातज चार प्रकार का होता है । इसके अतिरिक्त भावप्रकाश में इसका एक पाँचवाँ प्रकार मृत्तिकाभक्षणजात भी माना गया है । सुश्रुत ने कामला, कुंतकामला, हलीमक और लाघरक आदि रोगों को इसी के अंदर्गत माना है । इस रोग में रोगी को कंप, पीडा, शूल, भ्रम, तंद्रा, आलस्य, खाँसी, श्वास, अरुचि और अंगों में सूजन आदि भी होती है ।

महाभारत के अनुसार पाण्डु हस्तिनापुर के महाराज विचित्रवीर्य और उनकी दूसरी पत्नी अम्बालिका के पुत्र थे । उनका जन्म महर्षि वेद व्यास के वरदान स्वरूप हुआ था। वे पाण्डवों के आध्यात्मिक पिता और धृतराष्ट्र के कनिष्ट भ्राता थे। जिस समय हस्तिनापुर का सिंहासन सम्भालने के लिए धृतराष्ट्र को मनोनीत किया जा रहा था तब विदुर ने राजनीति ज्ञान की दुहाई दी कि एक नेत्रहीन व्यक्ति राजा नहीं हो सकता, तब पाण्डु को नरेश घोषित किया गया।
