शारीरिक अवयवों पर ओषधियों के प्रभाव को औषधशास्त्र या 'भेषजगुण विज्ञान' (फ़ार्माकॉलोजी) कहते हैं। प्राचीन काल में यह केवल उन वनस्पति पदार्थो का संकलन मात्र था जिनको रोगों में लाभ पहुँचानेवाला समझा जाता था। वर्षो तक इसका नाम 'मैटीरिया मेडिका' रहा।
