Description
किसी वृत्त की जीवा (chord) वह सरल रेखा है जिसके दोनों सिरे उस वृत्त की परिधि पर स्थित हों। जीवा को दोनों तरफ बढाने से प्राप्त रेखा को छेदक रेखा कहते हैं। अधिक व्यापक रूप में कहें तो किसी भी वक्र के किन्हीं दो बिन्दुओं को जोड़ने वाली रेखा को 'जीवा' कहते हैं ।
