Peristalsis is a type of intestinal motility, characterized by radially symmetrical contraction and relaxation of muscles that propagate in a wave down a tube, in an anterograde direction. Peristalsis is progression of coordinated contraction of involuntary circular muscles, which is preceded by a simultaneous contraction of the longitudinal muscle and relaxation of the circular muscle in the lining of the gut.

சுற்றிழுப்பசைவு அல்லது சுற்றுச்சுருங்கல் அசைவு (peristalsis) என்பது அடுத்தடுத்து நிகழும் தசைச்சுருக்கங்களால் ஒரு குழாய் வழியாக ஏற்படும் பொருட்களின் நகர்ச்சியைக் குறிக்கும். விலங்குகளின் உணவுக்குழாய் வழியே உணவு நகர்தல் இம்முறையின் பொதுவான எடுத்துக்காட்டு ஆகும். முட்டைக் குழாய் (oviduct) வழியே கருவுறு முட்டைகள் நகர்தல், சிறுநீரக நாளம் (ureter) வழியாக சிறுநீரகத்திலிருந்து சிறுநீர்ப்பை வரை சிறுநீர் நகர்தல், புணர்ச்சிப் பரவசநிலையின் போது விந்து தள்ளப்படுதல் முதலியவை இவ்வசைவினால் தான்.
