Mysticism is popularly known as becoming one with God or the Absolute, but may refer to any kind of ecstasy or altered state of consciousness which is given a religious or spiritual meaning. It may also refer to the attainment of insight in ultimate or hidden truths, and to human transformation supported by various practices and experiences.

ਰਹੱਸਵਾਦ ਯਥਾਰਥ ਦੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਪਹਿਲੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਆਮ ਇਨਸਾਨੀ ਬੌਧਿਕ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਇਹ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਰਤਾਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ। ਸਰਬਉਚ ਹਸਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਵੀ ਇਸੇ ਖੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ। ਯੂਨਾਨੀ, ਯਹੂਦੀ, ਇਸਾਈ, ਇਸਲਾਮੀ, ਸੂਫ਼ੀ, ਹਿੰਦੂ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਹਰੇਕ ਧਰਮ ਧਾਰਾ ਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਰੰਗ ਦਾ ਰਹੱਸਵਾਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।
