सहा प्रकारच्या वेदांगामधील शिक्षा हे एक स्वतंत्र शास्त्र आहे.हे पहिले वेदांग आहे.व्युत्त्पत्तीच्या दृष्टीने स्वर ,वर्ण आदींचा उच्चार कसा करावा हे शिकविणारी विद्या म्हणजे शिक्षा.स्वर तीन प्रकारचे असतात.उदात्त,अनुदात्त,स्वरित.स्वराचा उच्चार करायला जो वेळ लागतो त्याला मात्रा असे म्हणतात.-हस्व,दीर्घ,प्लुत अशा तीन मात्रा आहेत. वैदिक काळापासूनच वेदांगाकडे वैदिक ऋषींचे लक्ष वेधले गेले होते.तैत्तिरीय उपनिषदात शिक्षेची वर्ण,स्वर,मात्रा,बल,साम आणि संतान अशी सहाप्रकारची अंगे सांगितली आहेत.
