मराठीत एकूण ४१ व्यंजने आहेत. ज्याचा उच्चार करतांना जिभेचा कंठ, टाळू, मुर्धा, दात, ओठ, या अवयवांशी स्पर्श होतो त्यांना व्यंजन असे म्हणतात. या ४१ व्यंजनांपैकी ३४ व्यंजनाचे पाच प्रकारात विभाजन केले जाते.
