ജീവികൾക്ക്‌ തമ്മിൽ ആശയ വിനിമയം നടത്താനുള്ള മാധ്യമങ്ങൾക്കാണ് ഭാഷ എന്നുപറയുന്നത്‌. അഥവാ ആശയ വിനിമയത്തിനുള്ള സൂചകങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു കൂട്ടത്തിനെ ഭാഷ എന്നു പറയുന്നു. ഹോർമോണുകളും, ശബ്ദങ്ങളും, വിദ്യുത്‌ തരംഗങ്ങളും, ആംഗ്യങ്ങളും, എല്ലാം പലയിനങ്ങളിലുള്ള ജീവികൾ താന്താങ്ങളുടെ ഭാഷയായി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. കമ്പ്യൂട്ടർ മുതലായ വൈദ്യുതോപകരണങ്ങളിൽ പ്രത്യേക പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യാനുപയോഗിക്കുന്ന വാക്കുകളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിനും ഭാഷ എന്നു തന്നെ ആണ്‌ പറയുന്നത്‌.പ്രോഗ്രാമിംഗ്‌ ഭാഷ, സൂചക ഭാഷ(Markup Language) മുതലായവ ഉദാഹരണങ്ങൾ. പൊതുവായി പറഞ്ഞാൽ ഭാഷ എന്നത്:- 'ആശയവിനിമയത്തിനുള്ള ശബ്ദാത്മകമായ ഉപാധി'യെന്ന് വിവക്ഷിക്കാം
