A cheque or check ; is a document that orders a bank, building society to pay a specific amount of money from a person's account to the person in whose name the cheque has been issued. The person writing the cheque, known as the drawer, has a transaction banking account where the money is held. The drawer writes various details including the monetary amount, date, and a payee on the cheque, and signs it, ordering their bank, known as the drawee, to pay the amount of money stated to the payee.

ಚೆಕ್ ಒಂದು ದಾಖಲೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಒಬ್ಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಖಾತೆಯಿಂದ ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟ ಮೊತ್ತದ ಹಣವನ್ನು ಚೆಕ್ ವಿತರಿಸಿದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗೆ ಪಾವತಿಸಲು ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್‌ಗೆ ಆದೇಶಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದೊಂದು ಹಣದ ಪಾವತಿಯನ್ನು ಆದೇಶಿಸುವ ಕಾಗದದ ಒಂದು ಚೂರು ಅಥವಾ ರಶೀದಿ. ಚೆಕ್ ಬರೆಯುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ, ಅಂದರೆ ಪಾವತಿಸುವವನು, ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ತನ್ನ ಹಣವನ್ನು ಠೇವಣಿ ಇಟ್ಟ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಖಾತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಪಾವತಿಸುವವನು ಚೆಕ್ಕಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಹಣದ ಮೊತ್ತ, ದಿನಾಂಕ, ಮತ್ತು ಹಣಗ್ರಾಹಿಯ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಂತೆ ನಾನಾ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೆದು, ಅದನ್ನು ಸಹಿಮಾಡಿ, ಹಣ ಪಡೆಯಬೇಕಾದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಅಥವಾ ಕಂಪನಿಗೆ, ನಮೂದಿಸಲಾದ ಹಣದ ಮೊತ್ತವನ್ನು ಸಂದಾಯಮಾಡುವಂತೆ ತನ್ನ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕಿಗೆ ಆದೇಶ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾನೆ.
