साधु, संस्कृत शब्द है जिसका सामान्य अर्थ 'सज्जन व्यक्ति' से है। लघुसिद्धान्तकौमुदी में कहा है- 'साध्नोति परकार्यमिति साधुः' । वर्तमान समय में साधु उनको कहते हैं जो सन्यास दीक्षा लेकर गेरुए वस्त्र धारण करते है उन्हें भी साधु कहा जाने लगा है। साधु(सन्यासी) का मूल उद्देश्य समाज का पथप्रदर्शन करते हुए धर्म के मार्ग पर चलकर मोक्ष प्राप्त करना है। साधु सन्यासी गण साधना, तपस्या करते हुए वेदोक्त ज्ञान को जगत को देते है और अपने जीवन को त्याग और वैराग्य से जीते हुए ईश्वर भक्ति में विलीन हो जाते है।
Sadhu, also spelled saddhu, is a religious ascetic, mendicant or any holy person in Hinduism and Jainism who has renounced the worldly life. They are sometimes alternatively referred to as yogi, sannyasi or vairagi.
