Description
A periscope is an instrument for observation over, around or through an object, obstacle or condition that prevents direct line-of-sight observation from an observer's current position.
परिदर्शी (Periscope) एक प्रकाशिक यंत्र है जिसके द्वारा प्रेक्षक छिपा रहकर भी अपने चारों ओर के वातावरण को देख सकता है। इसका उपयोग पनडुब्बी, युद्धपोत, क्रूज़र युद्धक्षेत्र में छिपे सैनिकों द्वारा, एवं तोपखाने के तोपची अफसर द्वारा लक्ष्य को देखने और शत्रु की गतिविधि का ज्ञान करने के लिए होता है। प्रथम विश्वयुद्ध के समय में खाइयों से शत्रु पर नजर रखने के लिये इसका उपयोग हुआ था। कुछ प्रकार की बन्दूकों एवं तोपधारी गाड़ियों में भी इसका प्रयोग होता है. पेरिस्कोप में दो समतल दर्पण 45° पर झुके होते हैं।
