In Greek mythology and later Roman mythology, the Cyclopes are giant one-eyed creatures. Three groups of Cyclopes can be distinguished. In Hesiod's Theogony, the Cyclopes are the three brothers Brontes, Steropes, and Arges, who made for Zeus his weapon the thunderbolt. In Homer's Odyssey, they are an uncivilized group of shepherds, the brethren of Polyphemus encountered by Odysseus. Cyclopes were also famous as the builders of the Cyclopean walls of Mycenae and Tiryns.

रोमन और ग्रीक इतिहास के मुतबिक सैक्लोप्स एक आन्खो वाली एक जाति है। इन्के नाम क मत्लब "गोल-आन्खोन वाले" माना गया है। हेसोइड ने सैक्लोप्स को "युरेनस" और "गाया" का बेठा कहा है। वह ये भी कहते हैं कि यह सैक्लोप्स "टैट्न्स" के भाई है और बहुत अच्छे कलाकार और मज़्दोर थे। कवि "होमर" के मुतबिक सैक्लोप्स एक मन्विक-गोकुल थे। लेकिन होमर यह नहि कह्ते हैं कि वह एक-आन्खो वाले थे और इसका पता तब चलता है जब ओडिसियस पोलिफेमस के आन्ख मैं एक द्रिश्ति बनाता है। हेसोइड के "थिओगोनि" मे, ज़ुस तीन सैक्लोप्सो को टारटारस, जो ग्रीक इतिहास में नरक के समान है, से निकाल देता है। यह तीन सैक्लोप्स ज़ुस को उसके धनुश, हेडिस को उसका गायब होने वाला ताज और पोसइडन को उसका त्रिशुल बनाके उन भगवानो के हाथो में सौम्प देते है।
