మెదడు (Brain), మానవుని తలభాగంలో కపాలంచే రక్షించబడి ఉంటుంది. జ్ఞానేంద్రియాలన్నింటికి ఇది ముఖ్యమైన కేంద్రం.మెదడుకు తనంతట తానే సొంతంగా మరమ్మతులు చేసుకోగలిగే సామర్థ్యం ఉందని తేలింది. సెరిబ్రల్‌ కార్టెక్స్‌ ప్రాంతంలో నాడీకణాలు గాయాలకు తగినట్లుగా తమ ఆకృతిని సైతం మార్చుకుని పునరుత్తేజం పొందుతున్నట్లు గుర్తించారు. మెదడుకి ఎం చెయ్యాలో ఆలోచించడం, నిర్ణయాలు తీసుకోవడం, గత విషయాలు గుర్తు పెట్టుకోవడం వంటి లక్షణాలు ఉంటాయి. అయితే పురుషులకు జ్ఞాపక శక్తికంటే తెలివితేటలు ఎక్కువగా ఉంటాయని, స్త్రీలకు తెలివితేటలకంటే జ్ఞాపకశక్తి ఎక్కువగా ఉంటుందని, పురుషులు స్త్రీల కంటే తెలివైనవారని తాజా పరిశోధనల్లో తేలింది. దీనికి కారణం మెదడులో నాడీకణముల నిర్మాణంలో తేడాయే అని తేలింది. 1999 నుండి 2005 వరకూ రిచర్డ్ లిన్ నిర్వహించిన మెటా స్టడీలో సగటు తెలివితేటలు స్త్రీలకంటే పురుషుల్లో 3 - 5 అంశంలు ఎక్కువని తేలింది. 17, 18 సంవత్సరాల వయసు గల బాలురలో తెలివితేటలు 3.63 అంశంలు ఎక్కువ ఉన్నట్లు జాక్సన్, రస్టన్ అను శాస్త్ర వేత్తలు తేల్చారు.
