कापूस (kapusa) - Meaning in English

कापूस हा वनस्पतीपासून मिळणारा आणि सेल्युलोजयुक्त तंतू पूर्वापार मोठय़ा प्रमाणात वापरला जाणारा धागा आहे. कापूस हे एक नगदी पीक आहे. कापसाला पाण्याचे आकर्षण आहे. सुती कपडे घातल्यास हाच गुणधर्म घाम टिपून घ्यायला मदत करतो. म्हणूनच उष्ण कटिबंधातील देशात सुती कपडे प्राधान्याने वापरतात. कापूस खूप मऊ असतो.कापसाला पांढरे सोने म्हटल्या जाते. महाराष्ट्रातील यवतमाळ जिल्ह्याला 'पांढऱ्या सोन्याचा जिल्हा' म्हणून ओळखल्या जाते.

The fiber is almost pure cellulose, and can contain minor percentages of waxes, fats, pectins, and water. Under natural conditions, the cotton bolls will increase the dispersal of the seeds.
