छाता या छत्र काष्ठ या धातु की पसलियों द्वारा समर्थित एक तह वितान है जो सामान्यतः काष्ठ, धातु या प्लास्टिक के खम्भे पर लगाया जाता है। यह किसी व्यक्ति को वृष्टि या धूप से बचाने के लिए बनाया गया है। छाता शब्द का पारम्परिक रूप से उपयोग वृष्टि से स्वयं को बचाने के लिए किया जाता है, छत्र के साथ स्वयं को सूर्य की धूप से बचाने के लिए प्रयोग किया जाता है, यद्यपि शब्दों का प्रयोग परस्पर के लिए किया जाता है। अक्सर अन्तर वितान के लिए प्रयुक्त सामग्री है; कुछ छत्र जलरोधक नहीं होते हैं, और कुछ छाते पारदर्शी होते हैं। छात्रों के वितान कपड़े या लचीले प्लास्टिक से बने हो सकते हैं।
